 Choices in life are rarely simple .  We normally do not have situations which

are to our likings.  Many times we are under the control of others, whose values may not be consistent with ours .

ETHICAL DILEMMA IS: CONFLICT BETWEEN

 ones personal and professional values  Two possible actions each with reasons strongly

favorable and unfavorable  Two unsatisfactory alternatives

Ethical Dilemma is:

 NOT a choice between right and wrong  IS a choice between two things that could

both equally be right.

CHARACTERISTICS OF ETHICAL DILEMMA

 Choice between equally undesirable alternative .  Different courses of action possible.  Involves valid judgments about action or

consequences.

Examples of Ethical Dilemmas  What should a doctor do: He knows that the girl getting married to his close friend has problems that would harm the marriage relationship?
 Should he tell his friend by breaking the

professional ethics?

 You find the organization you are

working is doing an anti social activity.  Blow the whistle?  Do you keep quiet and risk society or complain and risk the job?

 Ethical Dilemma  A situation that, although offering potential benefits, is unethical.  One of the most common ethical dilemmas occurs when a companys culture conflicts with an employees personal ethics
