Beowulf Essay ENFJ British Literature Winwin Chang People with an ENFJ type personality are more responsible,

, outgoing, and often have lots of sympathy toward others. They are simply a person with awesome leading abilities, and Beowulf really expresses these characteristics. Beowulf is the kind of person who would automatically give himself pressure and responsibility for others businesses. He has this characteristic that he will be so desperate to help others and he wouldnt even care whether they are stranger to him or not. The poem Beowulf creates this hero like character with an ENFJ type personality; he is respected among the people. No matter how dangerous or risky it is, Beowulf follows his principles. However, his power and his kind-heart balanced his irrationality, taking vengeance upon the ones who killed the innocents. All these traits show how Beowulf can be described in the Myers-Briggs personality test as Extraverted, Intuition, Feeling and Judgment. It isnt easy being a good leader, in the very beginning of the poem; it talks about how arrogant and proud Beowulf is. But later on it talks about how much Beowulf cares for the people such that he is willing to fight for another country, even if he didnt belong to it, These Grendel-deeds I heard in my home-land heralded clear. Seafarers say how stands this hall, of buildings best, for your band of thanes empty and idle, when evening sun in the harbor of heaven is hidden away. So my vassals advised me well, brave and wise, the best of men, O sovran Hrothgar, to seek thee here, for my nerve and my might they knew full well. (Chapter 6) As he went back to where he belongs and became the king, he noticed that if he dies without killing the dragon his people will be in danger; as a result he waits for that day and dies with it. He could have given this job to the next king, how high of a position he and the people put him on? Still he thinks that it is his job to finish the last request of the whole nation, he sacrificed himself for the greater good. How grateful is this for a man to do so what he had done? Not considering about himself but cared so much about the people beside him. After Beowulf killed Grendels mom, he was so excited that he decided to kill Grendel just for the sake of it. The hall he scanned. By the wall then went he; his weapon raised high by its hilts the Hygelac-thane, angry and eager. That edge was not useless to the warrior now. He wished with speed Grendel to guerdon for grim raids many, for the war he waged on Western-Danes oftener far than an only time,

(Chapter 23) this part of the poem clearly stated how he follows more of his intuition then his thinking before he make any decisions. It is actually pretty impressive how he made that move without thinking. Beowulf doesnt seem like the kind of person whod do extra killing works that he didnt plan on doing. It wasnt quite clear how emotional Beowulf is in the beginning, but toward the ending of the poem, he showed how affective he is, Then kissed the king of kin renowned, Scyldings chieftain, that choicest thane, and fell on his neck. Fast flowed the tears of the hoary-headed. Heavy with winters, he had chances twain, but he clung to this, that each should look on the other again, and hear him in hall. Was this hero so dear to him. His breasts wild billows he banned in vain; safe in his soul a secret longing, locked in his mind, for that loved man burned in his blood. Then Beowulf strode, glad of his gold-gifts, the grass-plot oer, warrior blithe. (Chapter 26) Not a lot of time have they spent with each other, still he treats Hrothgar like one of his brothers that he promised him he will help him whenever he needs help. From his selfless love towards others, how he follows his intuition more than his thinking, and his emotional side, it leads to this conclusion that the Myers-Briggs personality test is very accurate. Beowulf is considered as an ENFJ type person, all the characteristic he showed throughout the poem points to this conclusion.
