DNS Server should be pointing to Current (OLD) DNS Server. Join this server to the Domain and make it a member server. To Upgrade the Forest Schema on Windows Server 2003 Schema Master, run ADPREP /ForestPrep To Upgrade the Domain Schema on Windows Server 2003 Schema Master, run ADPREP /DomainPrep /GpPrep On Windows Server 2008 R2, run DCPROMO to promote it as an Additional Domain Controller in the Existing Domain. Enable Global Catalog and DNS Server also. Verify that TCP/IP configuration of NEW Server points to NEW (Current) DNS Server. Disable Global Catalog on OLD DC. Transfer all FSMO Roles from OLD DC to NEW DC. Adjust DHCP Scope settings such that TCP/IP configuration of ALL Clients point to NEW DNS Server. Manually trigger replication (Replicate Now) to synchronize Active Directory database between OLD and NEW Domain Controllers.
