Liza Gurtin, a 17-year-old student at Francis Parker School, is one of five recipients

who will be honored with the prestigious Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Award. Liza is being recognized for her volunteer efforts as student chair of PCIs Walk for Water, which supported PCIs clean water projects and lifesaving programs in Tanzania and around the world. Under Lizas leadership, the event raised nearly $50,000 for PCI. A recipient of the Presidential Community Service Award, Liza has led or participated in dozens of community service projects. Nearly 125 teens from across the state of California were nominated and considered for this impressive awardfive recipients were chosen to each receive $36,000. Ms. Gurtin will be donating a majority of her award back to PCI for its clean water programs in Ethiopia. Each Diller honoree has initiated an innovative social action project exemplifying tikkun olam, a central precept of Judaism meaning repair of the world. The teens will be recognized at a luncheon in San Francisco on August 29, 2011.
