1. antagonist -the person, force, or idea opposing the protagonist 2. author's purpose-why an author writes a story; to persuade the reader, give information, to entertainment, or to share an experience 3. character-An imaginary person represented in a work of fiction 4. climax- high point of interest or suspense in a story; the turning point 5. conflict - a struggle between two opposing forces; can be between two character, a character and nature, or a character and himself 6. dialogue- spoken conversation used by two or more characters to express thoughts, feelings, and actions 7. exposition - beginning of the story that establishes the setting, introduces some of the major characters, explains background, and introduces the characters' main conflict 8. fiction - A made up story about real or imagined persons or events. 9. flashback - returning to an earlier time in time in the story for the purpose of making something in the present more clear foreshadowing - the author's use of clues that hint at events that will occur later in the plot novel - A extended fictional work in prose; usually in the form of a story. persuade - to convince; to cause somebody to adopt a certain position, belief, or course of action. plot - sequence of events in a story point of view - the way an author tells his readers about the characters, events and ideas in his story; the angle from which the story is told (first person, third person, omniscient)
