instructor Katherine Szeto
date Monday 14 / Wednesday 16 August 2006

introduction The city is a place where millions of people from all classes, wealth and situation
live together. It is a busy place filled with architecture, automobiles and activity.
At times there is so much going on that things appear chaotic and out of control.

The government will often intervene to provide order in this chaos. Among the
different manners of intervention, the city will post signs providing direction and
regulation, as well as information. This helps to keep the city in good working
order.

briefing Create a new set of signage that will help improve Shanghai.

You will need to investigate societal behaviour to identify what aspects need
changing and why.

The final outcome is a set of signage that will help citizens become aware of a set
of issues, and help them improve their behaviour.

You will also be required to write a design rationale to explain your issue, its impor-
