La Linea Book Review

Sarim Ahmed 8th Grade English Mrs. Pip 7-31-11

The book was about a 15 year old boy who lives in Mexico with his Grandmother and sister (Elena).Miguel has always wanted to go visit his parents in California. The parents left them behind for about 6 years. After those six years Miguel surprisingly got a letter from his dad. The letter was telling Miguel to come visit him but to cross the border or La Linea. Crossing the Border is a very risky and dangerous thing to do. There are thieves that want to rob you and Border Patrol that wants to catch you. There are also gangs that scare you and wild animals that attack you. Desert storms that can blind you and hunger/thirst that deprive you. Miguel has to this without encountering these but sadly does. Miguels goal and only goal is to see and visit his parents. Both Miguel and Elena go through tough times like going on the deadly train called Mata Gente. They also went through people stealing their money. Sometimes they argue along the way but most of the time they work as a team. Miguel and Elena will be illegal immigrants one the get to the USA. I learned how much an illegal immigrant has to go through to get to USA to live a better life. La Linea points out that people should be proud of who they are because many people in the world are different and dont have perfect lives. And those certain people have to go through a lot to make their life better like Miguel. La Line also points out that family is top priority of your whole life, No matter what people have to go through.
