Describe IRPC’s plan to sell petrol to China.

Do you think IRPC is doing the right thing

by continuing to produce and sell high-sulphur petrol to other countries? Give reasons to
support your answer.

IRPC plans to sell petrol to China by using different steps. First of all, the company has
obtained a three year contract from Xishuangbanna Gas and Petrolium Industrial Co., to
provide 100 million liters of high-sulfur 91 octane petrol. Moreover, it is upgrading its
port facilities in Chiang Rai to triple its handling capacity to export to neighboring
countries including China. Finally, IRPC will complete a route linking Thailand, Laos
and China to boost its sales.

The company has made a wrong decision to continue producing and selling that petrol.
By exporting the petrol to other countries that lack high environmental standards, it is
deliberately taking advantage of those countries. Moreover, it is morally irresponsible to
look for profits only while the environmental problems are at stake. More importantly,
pollution knows no boundaries and Thailand will eventually suffer from the pollutant
IRPC is exporting to its neighbors.
