Data Interpretation (Internet Usage in Thailand by
Category)
The pie charts compare the changes in internet usage in
Thailand in 2005 and 2006. The usage is divided into different categories.
The use of the Internet for communication made up 40
percent of the total in 2005, followed by information search at 33%. A sizable percentage of 19 percent usage was done for entertainment. However, people conducted fewer business transactions online, which made up only 8 percent.
The year 2006 saw a complete change in internet usage.
The percentage of communication activities dropped by 5 percent, which stood at 35 percent. Likewise, information search was done less at 25 percent. But, internet usage for entertainment increased substantially from 19 to 29 percent, and there was a slight increase of 3 percent in business transactions at 11 percent.
The downward trend for online communication could be
due to other more convenient means such as cheaper phone charges. Also, the unreliability of information on the Internet may have meant less usage for information search. In contrast, more advanced technology likely enabled people to seek more online entertainment and conduct secure business transactions.
