Low lake levels a concern

ver the past few weeks the dust has been flying as combines have been a common site in fields in rural Manitoba. After a decent stretch of hot, dry weather the majority of producers are wrapping up another harvest, if not already done. According to this weeks MAFRI Crop Report, 95% of the harvest in southwestern Manitoba has been completed. Although the majority of producers had a late start this season due to the excessive moisture this spring, yields for most crops are being reported as average or slightly below average with average to good quality.

he electors of Riding Mountain constituency cast their votes in Tuesdays 40th General Election and voted PC Leanne Rowat as their MLA. Rowat won the position with 4,461 votes. NDP candidate, Albert Parsons came in second with 2,604 votes followed by Liberal Carl Hyde with 270 votes and the Green Partys Signe Knutson with 266 votes. Leanne becomes MLA for the Riding Mountain constituency after representing the former Minnedosa Constituency which was erased as a result of boundary changes, since 2003.
