The ROKR E1 Essential:

Backing up, flashing and restoring


Software:
•RAMLdr for ROKR (Download -> Software -> Firmware modding of )
•XVI32 Hex Editor Version 2.51 (Download -> Software -> Other software of )
•P2K Tools 0.8.4 (Download -> Software -> P2K Software of )
•FlashBackup 2.62 (Download -> Software -> Firmware modding of )
•PST 7.1.1 (*Mule is your friend ;D)

Backing up ROKR E1 – Step one


•in your phone preferencies set your default USB connection to “Data/Fax”
•power on and plug in your phone
•open RAMLdr for ROKR, click on “Send ramldr” and select “ldr.bin”
•in the text boxes you see below, fill in 10040000 and 12000000
•click on “Save mem s” (notice: not “Save mem” only, but “Save mem s”)
•wait for something like 10 minutes
•use XVI32 to open the .bin file RAMLdr created in its folder
•make sure the cursor is at the beginning of the file
•click on Edit -> Insert string:
•Insert: Hex string
•Value: 00
•Insert times: hexadecimal, value 40000
•save the file, for example “32 MB full backup.bin”
Backing up ROKR E1 – Step two
•Open FlashBackup and click on SHX Backup.
•In the “special full backup file” select the “32 MB full backup.bin” you
have just saved with XVI32
•select “fullflash”
•give a name to your backup, for example “backup 20060703”
•deselect the “smart cut empty data at the end of code groups” and click
on “Create”
•in a few seconds you should get the .shx backup of your phone

•use P2K Tools to backup your phone book: change to AT mode ->
Phonebook -> Read -> Backup
Flashing your phone
•you have to use MultiFlashFlexer.exe, one of the programs you can find in
C:\Programs\Motorola\PST
•remove the SIM and the TransFlash from the phone
•open MultiFlashFlexer.exe, select "Enable flash" and choose the .shx of the
MP you want to put on your phone
•select “Override existing phone software” and “Simultaneously power
down all phones”
•connect your phone and power it on
•click on Show devices until when your phone is displayer below
•click on Start

Restoring your phone from the backup file


•follow the same procedures you used when flashing your MP: simply use
the .shx file made with FlashBackup
