CHAPTER 3

The princess-cut dress has the length of bodice and skirt cut in a one-piece dress.

It has no waist seam . It may be sleeveless or with sleeves.

Princess-Cut Dress
It is supposed to fit the figure fairly close but has a wide stand-away skirt.

A princess-cut dress relies on vertical seams for shaping and style .

DRAFTING THE STYLED PRINCESS-CUT DRESS

Since your princess-cut dress is sleeveless, the armhole measurement is reduced accordingly to give a better fit to the base of the underarm. FOR SLEEVELESS BODICE

1. Trace the back and front basic sloper and mark points A,B, and C as shown in Figures 2 & 3.

2. Extend line A- B inch beyond point B and mark point (Figure 2 & 3). 3. Extend point C

SLEEVELESS BODICE

Style your sleeveless bodice skirt pattern into a princess cut by making the dress the block and the four panels

DRESS BLOCK 1. Line up the bodice blocks on the chest line . Extend center front and center back lines downwards and add skirt blocks (side points of waist touching only).Mark the top points of the bodice waist darts only-the remainder of dart markings are not required.

2. Mark the new waistline 1.5 cm down CB from the bodice waist. Square across to center front. Mark the below the waistline. 3. Smooth off the sides seams, taking 1cm off the front side seam at A . 4. Construct new darts: F-G=C-H,H-I=D-G . Join H to C for center guideline for front dart . Shorten by 10 cm from G , and draw in the dart, making the widest point 2.5 cm at waistline .
