2011 Princeton Invite
2011 Princeton Invite
With two weeks left until the America East Conference Championships, Head Coach Matt Gittermann finds himself between absolute and uncertainty. With the womens team, we know who is going to compete for us at the Conference Championships so for them we are just waiting for them to gel in a race like they have been in practice. However, with the men, we think five or six of them have stepped to the plate, we just need the next five to raise their level of competition and seize the opportunity, said Gittermann. The womens team has been consistent all season with senior Keri Wilson leading the charge, and a group of freshmen and sophomores who group together and cross the line quickly. We have definitely improved since the first meet, and what I am seeing in practice in terms of preparation has been great. Once that reaches the competition site we should be able to do something fairly impressive. The key for the Retrievers will be to get the second group together in a very tight pack and move them up the ranks. Freshmen Julie Gessler and Mary Katherine Kulp have been alternating as the second and third runner through the first three races, however watch for Kirsten McGovern to make a breakthrough performance after a strong start at the Paul Short Invite. Our goal this race is to get our second through seventh girl to run in a tight group the entire time. The mens team is going to be split into two races this weekend, with six members in the Championship Race and the rest in the open race. The Championship Race group have been our consistent performers throughout the year and have looked ready for America East competition through every race, said Gittermann, while the open race is going to be put the remaining runners on even footing, and thus give them an equal opportunity to race for one of the final positions. The championship race will feature Brandan McGee and Sam Boimov, the leading runners in all three races. They are both ready for a breakout performance in regards to both place and time, said Gittermann, and despite their improvement I think we are going to see the gap between them and Todd (Cowing) and Eric (Schuler) shrink this time out. Joining them will be Chris Snyder and Nic Escobar. Coach Gittermann revealed that, the Open Race is going to be where the excitement happens. This group of runners will be competing for an opportunity to run at the America East Championships in two weeks. The group includes runners who represented the team at last year Championships (Roy and Tim Jones, Vinny DiSalvo, and Andrew Smith), a track IC4A qualifier and Top Ten 5k Cross Country Performer (Jake Albino), previous Varsity contributors (Tommy Eldridge and Jackson Reams), and a slew of new comers. These kids are highly motivated and highly competitive, and to say that this is going to be a hard fought battle would be an understatement.

MEET PREVIEW
Princeton
Invitational
I believe that both teams are on the cusp of making big jumps in performance. We just need to put it together at the right time. - Coach Matt Gittermann
Brandan McGee
McGee Sharing Time at the Front
For the second time in three races, sophomore Brand an McGee has led the Retrievers across the line as the number one runner. With an impressive time at the first meet of the year, a breakout performance could be on tap if the weather allows it the notoriously flat and rainy Princeton course.
