Electric Machines Lab (EE-313L)

Objective:
Electric Machines Lab is aimed to practice the students with different characteristics of DC and AC electrical machines. Lab manual are designed in three groups. The first group introduces the students with different machines lab measuring instruments and other equipments. By the end of this group, students are able to use to analog wattmeter, Voltmeter, ammeter, single phase and three phase power supply safe and efficient use, to fined line and corresponding phase quantities for Wye and Delta connected circuits and their mutual relation. The second group of the labs is on single phase and three phase transformers. By the end of this group student gains the knowledge about characteristics of transformer and the type of losses in single phase and three phase transformers, their efficient use and equivalent circuits and reason for using transformers in electrical power transmission and distribution systems. The third group of labs is on AC and DC motors and generators. By the end of this group of labs, students are able to select best AC or DC motor/generator according to the requirements by using its characteristics.

Equipment:
The necessary equipments provided to the students includes: Power supply module having one three phase AC and Two DC power supplies, Analog Voltmeters, Analog ammeters, wattmeters, tachometers, resistive/inductive/capacitive Loads, Single Phase and Three Phase Transformers, DC and AC Motors, Starting rheostats etc.

The Lab:
The lab has five workstations that are enough for at least 25 students, but one problem is that in some of the labs other necessary equipments are not enough for five workstations.

Possible Extensions:
There is enough space in lab for putting three more workstations, so we can provide three power supply modules along with other necessary instruments and equipments to accommodate more students in one lab. In some of the labs we need more than one wattmeters, ammeters and voltmeters which is not available here.
