Abstract

Perupuk (Lophopetalum multinervium Ridl.) is one of indigenous species growing on

swampy forest in East Kalimantan. Nowdays this species has been extinct. That is
because some factors, primarily by illegal logging and land conversion. Some efforts
have been done to conserve this species by collecting the genetic material for ex situ
conservation as well as swampy land rehabilitation program. Seed collecting method
by tree climbing is an important work to get good quality and quantity.

Climbing into the crown has been conducted both by traditional and profesional
techniques. Some problems were experienced during the collection using both ones
relate to time effiency, natural obstacle as well as technical problem of the climbers.
Some information was recorded and documented during seed collection of perupuk
in natural population of Berau and Sebuku, East Kalimantan.

Time efficiency on seed collection related to the climber, climbing technique as well
as field condition. Lianas, tree performance, ant attack were recorded as some
obstacles for climbers affecting to time efficiency of seed collection.
