ACCEPTANCE SAMPLING GREEN LINE INSPECTION

ACCEPTANCE SAMPLING-MEANING
A common quality control technique used in industry
OR

Used to determine whether to accept or reject a production lot of material

When is acceptance sampling needed

When dealing with new suppliers During start ups and when building new products When products can be damaged during shipment When dealing with extremely sensitive products

SAMPLING PLANS
Sampling plans specify the lot size, sample size, acceptance/rejection criteria. Types of sampling plan: Single sampling Double sampling

Single sampling
Take a randomized sample of size n from the lot N Inspect all the items in the sample Defectives found = d
YES

d<= c ?
NO

Accept the lot

Reject the lot

Double sampling
Take a randomized sample of size n from the lot N Inspect all the items in the sample Defectives found = d1 Reject the lot
d > c2 ? d <=c1 ?

Accept the lot

Choose 2nd sample

let defectives found = d2
d1+d2 >c2 ?

Reject the lot

Just-In-Time (JIT)quality control technique

JIT helps achieve quality , because, it is a philosophy, that seeks to constantly improve production processes and Methods. It contributes to high product quality in the following ways: Production is highly standardized In-process inventories are drastically reduced by cutting lotsizes Suppliers of materials , under the JIT system, supply materials of perfect quality. Uses automated equipments Workers are responsible for producing parts of perfect quality

Companies using JIT

Hero Honda IBM General Electric Apple computers Ford Motors HP General motors

Green line technique

Example Consider that there are 50 lots For lot 1 to lot 10 - 100% inspection
no rejection

lot 11 to lot 15 - 20% inspection

no rejection

lot 16 to lot 20- 10% inspection

no rejection

lot 21 to lot 25- 1%inspection

no rejection

From lot 26 there will be no inspection and the lots are said to enter the green line which means that the lots are accepted
