Career Goals

Upon graduation I plan to attend a graduate program with an emphasis on biochemistry, molecular genetics, or cancer biology. I hope to achieve a doctoral degree in any of these associated fields. My aspirations are to one day assume a faculty position at a university, directing the research of a lab and teaching courses. I am avidly interested in the cancer cell biology field, and know the promise of various areas of research within the field such as stem cell research, inflammatory pathway mediation, gene delivery, proteomics, and genetic mapping. I would like to firmly distinguish my voracity at reaching a goal of preventing, mediating, or reducing cancer risk through pharmaceutical intervention. I would like to bring values of work ethic, creativity, and experimental design to the graduate school I am admitted to. The opportunity bestowed on me by my faculty mentor, Dr. Jason Collier, has done everything to prepare me for future work in the research field. The Collier lab is a relatively small lab; one post-doctoral fellow, two graduate students, and two undergraduate students. The proximity of these colleagues has essentially given me extremely valuable resources at my fingertips such as experimental protocol understanding, biological safety techniques, involvement in experimental design, opportunities to present data in the form of informal lab meetings, joint lab meetings, and departmental mini-symposia. Involvement in this lab has given me the ability to further my knowledge of various fields such as biochemistry, proteomics, organic chemistry, and genomic sciences.
