Monterey County Futbol Club Referee Code of Conduct No Poor Sportsmanship

MCFC Mission The purpose and aim of the Monterey County Futbol Club ("the Club") shall be to promote competitive and recreational levels of youth soccer in Monterey County, California. The Club shall do so by operating regular soccer leagues and competitive teams, and affiliating with the California Youth Soccer Association and/or such other local, regional or nationwide organizations as may be involved in the promotion and operation of youth soccer competition. As part of our mission, the organization is also committed to developing the character, physical fitness and educational opportunities for the youth in our community. Core Principles of Referee Conduct Soccer is a game of happiness and a sport of skill, training, and on occasion, good luck. The laws of soccer should be regarded as mutual agreements, the spirit of which should be respected and unbroken. Visiting teams and spectators are honored guests. No advantages except those of superior skill should be sought. Officials, coaches and players should be treated and regarded as honest. In soccer, as in life, treat others as you would have them treat you.

Principles of Agreement As a referee tasked with the awesome responsibility of fairly officiating youth and adult soccer contests as well as developing young players in the great game of soccer and forming the character of our youth, I agree to abide by the following philosophies and behaviors in my role as referee: The interest of player development will always be my first and foremost interest. I will give each youth the best opportunity available to exceed and develop their skills to the fullest potential. I will support the decisions and mission of MCFC, even when it may not be particularly convenient to do so. This includes abiding by the rules of the playing leagues, timely and accurate completion and submission of paperwork, and the like. I will encourage players whenever possible and minimize my criticism to constructive feedback which helps the players grow and develop. I will not argue with coaches and players, but will seek to instruct and educate them on the rules of the game. I will continue to develop myself as a referee, taking advantage of available referee courses, and abiding by the licensing guidelines established by the Club and/or League. I will always maintain the utmost respect for the game of soccer. I will conduct myself honorably at all times and maintain the dignity of my position. I will always honor an assignment or any other contractual obligation, including the following: Responding to the invitation to referee a match no later than six days prior to the scheduled match except in the instance of last minute refereechanges to the schedule Obligating oneself to the entire match from start to finish I will not leave early to referee another contest that conflicts with the necessary time for the schedule match, nor will I accept the invitation to referee the match if I know there is a conflict with another obligation Arriving no later than 20 minutes ahead of scheduled game time Checking all equipment to make sure goals are securely anchored, corner flags are appropriately placed and the correct height, assuring balls are correct size for

match and properly inflated, and field markings are appropriately marked on the field Educating myself ahead of time the correct playing time of the game for the age group to which you are assigned and confirming this with coaches and captains prior to the start of the match. If the standard time is deviated from, then signatures from both coaches on the game card is required prior to the start of the match. Arriving at match appropriately dressed, in matching uniform with the three-man referee crew, and having the required equipment on hand to referee the match. I will attend training meetings and clinics so as to know the Laws of the Game, their proper interpretation and their application. I will always strive to achieve maximum team work with my fellow officials. I will be loyal to my fellow officials and never knowingly promote criticism of them. I will be in good physical condition. I will control the players effectively by being courteous and considerate without sacrificing fairness. I will do my utmost to assist my fellow officials to better themselves and their work. I will not make statements about any games except to clarify an interpretation of the Laws of the Game. I will not discriminate against nor take undue advantage of any individual group on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. I consider it a privilege to be a part of the United States Soccer Federation and my actions will reflect credit upon that organization and its affiliates.
