    HOMEWORK for Friday, 4 November

    1. Solfge exercises a. melodic patterns: 3rd, 4th and 5h sequences in major (up and down) -work on speed and accuracy b. pentachord intervals in the harmonic minor from the same pitch (intonation!) 2. Ch. 17 melodies with asymmetrical meters -one melody between #17.5517.60 (use the 2-hand ostinato) -all do #17.57 with note names! 3. Cherubini canon in A minor: in canon + conduct (3 individuals at a time) for a grade 4. Harmony studies: augmented sixth chords -they are usually found a half step above the dominant (^6) and a half step below the octave dominant (^4 = ri in minor) -the Italian sixth resembles a 1st inversion triad (fa-la-ri) -the German sixth resembles a 1st inversion 7th chord (fa-la-do-ri) -the French sixth resembles a 2nd inversion 7th chord (fa-la-ti-ri) -sing this in minor, substituting the Ger6 and Fr6 for the It6: i l v6 s VI f It6 f V@=! m i l
