Luskins Important News about the Week 10/14/11


Every night your child brings home his/her poem folder. Make sure your child reads them; it helps develop fluency (speed of reading) by rereading the poems. Continue to practice reading the first, second, third, and fourth column of words from the 300 most common words. We read The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything, and we are preparing for the class play. During Math we introduced number models (3+4) for addition and subtraction. Also, we reviewed counting nickels and pennies. This week we started reading groups and centers. Ask your child what we did during reading group time. Each student had 60 minutes of reading group this week! Ask your child about the amazing Halloween Ghost sentences we typed in the computer lab. During handwriting we practiced the symbols ? and !. Please make sure your child is starting his/her letters at the TOP! The students are making great observations about the terrariums. All the worms and pill bugs are in hiding! Continue to PRACTICE the spelling words. New words come home on Monday. Important date:

On October 31st at 11:15 (after our class party), the students will be performing The Little Old Lady Who Wasnt Afraid of Anything! Please come and see your child perform! Also, its an early dismissal day at 12:15.
