ANDY & LUIS AGAIN PLAYED WELL TOGETHER. THE MORE THEY PLAY
AND TRAIN TOGETHER, THE MORE THEIR PARTNERSHIP IMPROVES.

We go into this game on the

back of two very pleasing away
wins. It is always difficult to win
away from home so we were
delighted to pick up two in the
space of four days.
Starting with the game at Stoke,
we knew it would be difficult as
they are a side who play to their
strengths and you can never fault
anyone for doing that. We admire
them for what theyve done but we
were determined to compete for
the 90 minutes and we did that.
Luis Suarez scored the goals
and Jordan Henderson played
a part in the build-up to both,
but everybody involved made
an important contribution to the
result. The other pleasing thing
was that a few of the lads who

WE HADNT HAD ONE IN THE LEAGUE
FOR A FEW WEEKS.

havent played as much as they

would have liked to in the last few
weeks featured in the game and
they all did well.

Our reward is a quarter-final at

Chelsea at the end of this month
which is a game we can all look
forward to. Between now and
then our focus is very much on the
Barclays Premier League and we
were pleased to build on the win
at the Britannia Stadium by picking
up three league points at West
Brom last Saturday.
West Brom went into the game
in good form having beaten both
Wolves and Aston Villa so we
knew that we would need to

Anfield for this afternoons fixture.

perform well if we were to come

away with a victory.
There was plenty of talk about
our penalty but the only thing that
mattered was that the linesman
gave it and Charlie converted it.
We felt that we could also have
had another one when Andy
Carrolls header hit Steven Reid on
the arm.
Andy and Luis again played
well together. The more they play
and train together, the more their
partnership improves. Andy took
his goal well and the move that led

It was important to keep a clean
sheet. We hadnt had one in the

We were obviously without Stevie

and Carra last weekend. Naturally
we would always prefer to have
them available for selection, but
its good to know we have a
strong squad and managed to
pick up an excellent win despite
their absence.
Earlier this week we were
delighted to see Jack Robinson
sign a new long-term contract
with the Club. Like a number of
our young players, Jack has made
good progress during the past
few years. We want to see him
continue his development with us
and feel that this is a good reward

This afternoon, we extend a

warm welcome to Swansea City
who are enjoying their time back in
the top division.
Swansea have started life in
the Premier League well, despite
having some tough away matches
early on. They will come here in a
confident mood after their 3-1 win
over Bolton last Saturday. They
were also close to coming away
with the points against Wolves at
Molineux the week before when
the game finished 2-2. So we
know that Swansea are in good
form and we will need to work
hard and be at our best if we are
to get our rewards from the game.
Like Stoke, Swansea are

league for a few weeks so it was

good to get another.

..........................................................................................................

Andy Carroll scores the second at The Hawthorns

another team who play to their

strengths. Their strengths are
in passing and moving the ball
quickly. Brendan Rodgers has put
a good side together and we know
theyll enjoy some decent periods
of possession against us so we will
also need to be patient, both on
the pitch and in the stands.

Thank you for your support.

SWANSEA HAVE STARTED LIFE IN THE PREMIER

LEAGUE
WELL, DESPITE HAVING SOME TOUGH
AWAY MATCHES EARLY ON.

ANOTHER KEY TO SUCCESS IS KEEPING CLEAN SHEETS. WE HAVENT

DONE THAT ENOUGH, SO TO RECORD ONE AT WEST BROM WAS IMPORTANT.

Again though, we matched

them and this time we got what
we felt we deserved. Luis goals
were excellent, with his first one
showing just how good he is. As
Kenny said afterwards, it wasnt all
about him though. The whole team
performed and it was especially
pleasing to overturn a deficit and
go on to win. You need to do that
regularly if you want to enjoy a
good season.
Another key to success is
keeping clean sheets. We havent

.............................................................................................................................................................................

done that enough, so to record

one at West Brom was important.
Its obvious, but the more often
you can prevent your opponents
from scoring, the more chance you
have of winning. If we can keep it

.....................................

SINCE we last played at Anfield,

weve had two good away wins
over first Stoke and then West
Brom. We know how difficult it is
to get a victory at the Britannia.
Earlier in the season we performed
very well there only to come away
with nothing. They defend strongly
and really put you under pressure.

tight at the back, we always feel

we have the players to score at the
other end.
It was good to see both Charlie
and Andy get on the scoresheet
again. They both took their goals

SKIPPERS NOTES

Well be aiming to put Swansea

under similar pressure today.
Theyve started the season
impressively, keeping a lot of clean
sheets at home. That solid base
has allowed them to play some
good passing football.
Away from the Liberty Stadium,
theyve found it tougher. Thats

understandable when you consider

theyre newly promoted and you
look at the fixtures theyve had.
Already theyve played Man City,
Arsenal and Chelsea away, which
are difficult games for any side.
In their last away match, they
were very close to a victory at
Wolves. They were 2-0 up before it
eventually finished in a draw.
Theyve already got 12 points
and our draw with Norwich
illustrated that games against
newly promoted teams are never

......................................................................................

well. Andy and Luis also showed

signs that their partnership is
gelling well. Ive said it before, but
when the two of them are on form,
not many defences can stop them.

......................................................................................

......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

simple. We created plenty of

chances that day, particularly in
the first half. Today well be aiming
to go forward in the same way.
If we do that and convert our
opportunities, Im confident we
can take the three points.

THEYVE STARTED THE SEASON IMPRESSIVELY,

KEEPING
A LOT OF CLEAN SHEETS AT HOME.
