ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE

10.Adjust: valve clearance

CHK ADJ

a. Loosen the locknut 1.

b. Insert a thickness gauge 2 between the end of the adjusting screw and the valve tip. c. Turn the adjusting screw 3 in direction a or b until the specified valve clearance is obtained. Adjusting screw side Direction a Valve clearance is increased. Valve clearance is decreased. Slip side Valve clearance is decreased. Valve clearance is increased.

d. Hold the adjusting screw to prevent it from moving and tighten the locknut to specification. Locknut 20 Nm (2.0 m kg, 14 ft lb)

e. Measure the valve clearance again. f. If the valve clearance is still out of specification, repeat all of the valve clearance adjustment steps until the specified clearance is obtained.

11.Install: all removed parts NOTE: For installation, reverse the removal procedure. Note the following points. Refer to ROCKER ARMS, PUSH RODS AND VALVE LIFTERS in chapter 5. 12.Adjust: installed shift rod length Refer to ADJUSTING THE SHIFT PEDAL.
