We spent a long weekend with Simon and Lornae in London in March this year. Simon is Pauls friend from university and was his best man. Unfortunately, Lornae wasnt able to come over from the UK for our weeding. Visa rules were the reason we had to wait until this trip to meet this wonderful woman who captured Simons heart. We had a wonderful time at their new house.

Anfang des Jahres verbrachten wir ein verlaengertes Wochenende bei Simon und Lornae in London. Simon ist ein UniFreund von Paul. Ausserdem war Simon Pauls Trauzeuge. Leider war es uns nicht moeglich, Lornae zur Hochzeit aus England einzufliegen. Visumsvorgaben waren der Grund, dass wir bis zu diesem Urlaub warten mussten, um diese wunderbare Frau kennenzulernen, die Simons Herz erobert hat. Wir hatten eine schoene Zeit in ihrem neuen Haus.

We left Germany on a Thursday afternoon and arrived at our hosts house quite late. We denitely needed to study the train map more carefully!

Wir verliessen Deutschland an einem Donnerstag Nachmittag und kamen sehr spt im Haus unserer Gastgeber an. Man muss halt das Bahnnetz besser studieren!

Simon and Lornae: We were really happy to nally meet Lornae and see Simon again. Back at our wedding, Simon was quite sure Lornae was the one for him but hadnt proposed yet. Now, we met the married couple and were grateful they put us up even though Lornae was 7.5 months pregnant. They had just bought a house in the Wimbledon area, in Sutton. While Paul had been to London before, it was Julias rst time in the capital and she loved it. Of course we did many of the touristy things such as visiting Trafalgar Square, Harrods, Piccadilly Circus, St. Pauls Cathedral, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, and many more spots. Important was the stop at the New Zealand shop where we just had to get L&P (a sparkling soft drink from NZ). Paul had another place he wanted to visit, which was only a half an hour walk away from their house Carshalton, the place, where he was born and lived until the age of three. He left the UK when he was 3 years old and therefore couldnt remember it but he wanted to see the duck pond he fell into as a child and the house he used to live in.

Simon und Lornae: Wir freuten uns, Lornae endlich kennenlernen zu knnen und Simon wiederzusehen. Bei unserer Hochzeit war sich Simon zwar sicher, dass Lornae seine zuknftige Frau sei, doch hatte er ihr noch keinen Antrag gemacht. Nun lernten wir das verheiratete Paar kennen und waren dankbar, dass sie uns beherbergten, obwohl Lornae bereit im 8 Monat schwanger war. Sie hatten sich erst vor Kurzem ein Haus in Sutton (bei Wimbledon) gekauft. Whrend es Pauls zweiter Besuch in London war, erlebte Julia die Hauptstadt zum ersten Mal und war begeistert. Wir besuchten natrlich die Touristenattraktionen wie Trafalgar Square, Harrods, Piccadilly Circus, St. Pauls Cathedral, London Eye (Riesenrad), Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park und vieles mehr. Ganz wichtig war ein Besuch im Neuseeland Laden, wo wir unbedingt ein L&P trinken mussten (ein neuseelndisches kohlensurehaltiges Getrnk). Paul wollte aber noch einen anderen Ort besuchen Carshalton, wo er geboren und aufgewachsen ist. Carshalton war nur eine halbe Stunde vom Haus entfernt und Paul wollte sein Zuhause sehen, welches er im Alter von 3 Jahren verlassen hat und daher auch keine Erinnerung daran hat. Er wollte den Ententeich sehen, in den er als Kind el und das Haus, in dem er aufgewachsen ist.

We managed to meet up with Pippa, Pauls cousin, who lives in Ascot near London. She was able to come into the city for the day. It was great to be able to spend some time together. Simon and Lornae also joined us and we had dinner together at an Indian restaurant in the famous Brick Lane.

Ausserdem trafen wir uns noch mit Pippa, Pauls Cousine, die in Ascot in der Nhe von London lebt. Sie kam unseretwegen nach London und es war toll, etwas Zeit mit ihr verbringen zu knnen. Simon und Lornae kannten sie ja auch und so genossen wir ein leckeres indisches Dinner in der berhmten Brick Lane (Backsteingasse).

On Monday, we visited the Tower of London with Andrea, an English friend of ours from Japan, who lives in London. Andrea had been in our cell group in Tokyo. The timing worked out well as that week she was ying to Japan to board the Peace Ship, a ship which sails around the world promoting peace and understanding amongst different cultures and countries. The passengers were all Japanese and while on board they were offered a variety of different courses and the opportunity to meet with people from the countries in which they stopped. Andrea had been hired to teach English, it had been a very difcult position to secure. Anyway we spent a few hours looking around the Tower.

Am Montag besuchten wir fr ein par Stunden den Tower of London gemeinsam mit Andrea, einer englischen Freundin aus Japan, die nun wieder in London lebt. Andrea war ein Teil unseres Hauskreises in Tokyo. Das Timing haute hin, denn kurz nach unserem Treffen og sie zurck nach Japan, um an Bord des Peace Ships (Friedensschiff) zu gehen. Das Schiff macht eine Weltreise, um Frieden und Verstndnis fr kulturelle Unterschiede zu propagieren. Die Passagiere sind Japaner und whrend der Reise nehmen sie an unterschiedlichen Kursen teil und treffen die Leute in den angelaufenen Hfen. Andrea hatte als Englischlehrerin angeheuert und es war nicht einfach, diesen Posten zu bekommen.

On Tuesday morning, we had to get up at 3:30 am in order to catch our ight back to Nuremberg. The trip back home was a long ordeal and when we nally arrived at home we fell into our beds and were out for the next few hours. It was a great trip and it denitely wasn't the last time in London.

Am Dienstag Morgen mussten wir bereits um 3:30 Uhr aus den Federn, um unseren Flug zurck nach Nrnberg zu erwischen. Es war eine anstrengende Rckreise und als wir endlich Zuhause ankamen, elen wir in unser Bett und verbrachten die nchsten Stunden im Koma. Es war eine schne Reise und es war sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal in London.
