Lesson Plan 3 Math Lesson Plan Major Concept Time/Addition Grade/Age Second Grade

Learning Objectives 1. Students will be able to tell time and solve math problems at a quick pace. 2. Students will learn teamwork and how to work together. Materials 1. Flashcards 2. Rubber markers/cones for the bases 3. Whiteboard and markers for score Lesson 1. I will begin by asking the students if any of them have played baseball or softball. 2. I will then show how to run the bases (1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to home) 3. Split the students into two different teams. 4. I will then have one team go first for 2 minutes. 5. The first student in line for team 1 will start. If he gets the problem right on the first try then he gets to go to second base. If not, he goes to first. (I don't want to discourage the children.) 6. The next student in line steps up and the same rules apply. 7. Once on a base, you may only move 1 spot (2 students may be on second at the same time) 8. As a student passes home, he will then mark a tally under his team name and high five his team. 9. Each team only has 2 minutes to score as many points as possible. Application Activity Students can roll a pair of dice to answer and write down a math problem. For example, if a student rolled a 4 and a 2, they would write down 4 + 2 = 6. They would see how many they can do in 5 minutes to quicken their pace. There will be 4-5 students in each group. Follow-up/Homework Students will be assigned to cut out pre-made flash cards and practice at home for 5 minutes every night with their family.
