How to Make a Population Pyramid in Excel - PC

1. Complete Population Pyramid Worksheet (see instructions and link on Blackboard where to get your information) 2. Make sure that you make the percentages for the male negative. For your title include the city name and year of data. 3. Highlight the data (only the numbers), right click select Format Cells, number and change decimal places to 2. 4. Save your data. Click on File, Save As and give your title an appropriate name. Make sure you are saving this is your H Drive (look for your name) 5. Now we are going to turn your data into a population pyramid. Highlight your data once again (titles, ages and data ask teacher). 6. Choose from the top bar menu; INSERT followed by BAR GRAPH.

7. Choose the very first choice for BAR GRAPHS; 2D, clustered.

8. Right click on a bar; choose FORMAT DATA SERIES...; Slide the first pointer to the right (OVERLAPPED),
slide the second pointer to near the end (GAP WIDTH). Hit CLOSE.

9. Right click on any of the interval numbers; FORMAT AXIS; and change the following as shown.

10. To add titles, highlight your chart, click LAYOUT, and choose the following listed.

This is what your final product will appear as. Yours will have more bars though.

11. Make sure that your city and year of the data is included in the title. 12. Save Population Pyramid in your H Drive and give it an appropriate name. 13. When you ready, insert your population pyramid into your webpage or ArcGIS Map #2 (provincial or City).
