Chapter 17 Lab Activity 1: Contouring a Water Table Exercise

This lab exercise involves studying and working with a map of topic-related geological structures from the Problems section of Exercise 11 of the Exercises in Physical Geology lab manual and answering the questions (Exercise 11, Problem 6). [Image is also provided on page 2 of this document] [Answer only the parts below] Note: In order to get the most accurate values, you have to ID the elevation of most all lakes in the area and follow contour lines very closely. It is also important to note the elevation of the marshes in the south part of the map. 6. Southern Florida a.100ft
[Note: for part a., Im looking for the elevation--as the question asks. Youll need to construct a contour (groundwater) map to obtain the value, but you dont need to return the map that you created for grading purposes.]

c. The groundwater is moving in a northeasterly direction toward gum creek.

[Note: for part c., you can just describe the generalized way groundwater is moving. The arrows will help you visualize this, but you dont have return an image with the arrows.]

d. around 80ft

e. This waste will sink into the subsurface contaminating the groundwater. The waste water will move south down the creek.

f. With the abundance of lakes it seems flooding will have the most significance.
