introduction:according to the old two kingdoms classification algae and fungi grouped together in the sub group of plants

called thallophyta.the word thallophyta is derieved from the undefferenciated structure called thallus .as the body of these organisms is defferenciated into roots stems and leaves hence the body is called thallus . according to the five kingdom classification fungi constitute a seperate kingdom known as kinngdom fungi the reason for creating a seperate kingdom for fungi is the peculiar characteristics.instead of cellulose their cell wall is composed of chitin according to this system algae are include in kingdom protista whcih includes the unicellular and simple multicellular eukaryotes.

fungi:fungi are in many ways quite unlike other organisms.most of them are stationary and multicellular ,they are hetrotropes ,living as parasites, symbionts or reducers. there are thousands of species that live with the association with algae to form lichens.fungi also have a association with higher roots og plants called mycorrhizae. fungi are found in everywhere on rotting logs in soil and in air . fungi are eukaryotic organisms .the body or thallus called mycellium ,which consists of numerous branching threadlike growths calles hyphae. individually the hyphae are minute tubes of cytoplasm .the cell wall surrounding the hyphacomposed of complex carbohydrates calles chitin.chitin is a tough, flexible material.
