Rock Cycle Story

To demonstrate that you know and understand the rock cycle you will be creating a story that will follow a rock through the various parts of the rock cycle. This project can be in the form of: y y y y y y A Prezi A slideshow A poem A creative story A song A video

Your story will describe how a rock travels through the rock cycle changing from one type of rock to another. Your story must include the following words and your story should show that you scientifically understand what each word means. Sedimentary Igneous Metamorphic Weathering Erosion Compaction Cementation Deposition Intrusive Extrusive Foliated Non-foliated Sediment Magma Lava Subduction Tectonic plates Make sure that: y Your story names the type of rock and its specific name (ex: igneous granite) y You tell what parent rock your metamorphic rock came from (ex: gneiss comes from granite) y You state if your metamorphic rock is foliated or non-foliated y You state if your igneous rock is intrusive or extrusive (if your rock is intrusive, you must explain how it becomes exposed to the surface)

Describe what natural element caused weather and erosion Describe how the sediment traveled to a river, ocean, or valley.

You should also refer to How Rocks Change notes and the note on the BrainPoP video Types of rocks. Prior to starting your final project you must complete a Planning Sheet. Your planning sheet should have a least 12 pictures with descriptions underneath each picture and should include all required vocabulary. The planning sheet is an outline of the story that will serve as a guide as you complete your final project. It does not need to include all details.
