Concept: Artificial intelligence is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science that aims to create it.

History: Artificial intelligence began as an experimental field in the '50s with pioneers such as Allen Newell and Herbert Simon, who founded the first artificial intelligence laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University, and John McCarty who along with Marvin Minsky, founded the MIT AI Lab in 1959.

Examples: A.L.I.C.E. - A chatterbot. Alan - Another chatterbot. The Start Project - An Internet-based system that answers questions in English. ELIZA program that emulates a psychotherapist, developed in the 1960s

Ethical Questions: Freedoms and rights to such systems; System designs that are much smarter than any human; Deciding the level of safeguards to be designed in such systems; The Singularity; Awareness of subjective emotions in relation to careers and jobs.
