Cefaclor

(Anti-ineffective)

Action
This medication is a cephalosporin-type antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections (e.g., middle ear, skin, urine and respiratory tract infections).

Indication
Treatment of infection caused by Diplococcus pneumoniae. H. Influenza, E. Coli, proteus mirabilis. Acute and chronic infections of different degrees of severity including; infection of the upper and lower respiratory tract, ear, nose and throat area.

Contraindication
Patient with history of shock caused by this drug. Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Hypersensitivity to beat lactam antibiotics. May induced anaphylactic shock.

Adverse reaction
Hypersensitivity reaction including skin rashes, urticaria Fever reaction,and anaphylaxis, and acute interstitial nephritis.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: live vaccines, probenecid, warfarin. This medication may decrease the effectiveness of combination-type birth control pills. This can result in pregnancy. You may need to use an additional form of reliable birth control while using this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details

Nursing c0nsideration
Assess the patients previous sensitivity reaction to penicillin or other cephalosporins is common. Asses for allergic reaction and anaphylaxis, rash, fever, chills, and join pain. Asses for super infection; malaise, fever, chills, pain, swelling, and change in cough or sputum.

Obtain C&S before beginning drug therapy to identify if correct treatment has been initiated.

Mefenamic acid
(Analgesics)

Action
This medication relieves pain and reduces inflammation. It is used to treat headaches, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, dental pain and athletic injuries.

Indication
Relief of pain including muscular rheumatic, traumatic, dental post-operative and postpartum pain, headache, fever, and soft tissue injury.

Contraindication
Pregnancy and lactation. Hypersensitivity. Active ulceration and chronic inflammation or other the upper and lower GIT. Blood disorder, poor platelet function.

Adverse reaction
GI discomfort, diarrhea, or constipation, gas pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and drowsiness have been observed.

DRUG INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" such as warfarin, other arthritis medication, water pills, lithium. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Nursing c0nsideration
>Assess patients before therapy: location, duration, precipitating and alleviating factors. >Monitor for possible drug induced adverse reaction. >Assess patients and familys knowledge on drug therapy.

Gentamicin sulfates
(Anti ineffective)

Indication
It is prescribed for the treatment of severe infections caused by organisms sensitive to gentamicin, especially gram-negative organisms. Contraindications Concomitant administration of other potentially ototoxic or nephrotoxic drugs or known hypersensitivity to this drug or to other aminoglycoside medications prohibits its use. It is used with caution in patients with impaired renal function. It cannot be coadministered with a variety of other drugs, including penicillins. adverse effects Among the more serious adverse effects are nephrotoxicity, auditory or vestibular ototoxicity, impairment of neuromuscular transmission, and hypersensitivity reactions.

Nursing c0nsideration
Assess patient for sensitivity reacti0n. Assess patient for signs and symptom of infection including characteristics of wounds, sputum, urine, stool, fever abtain baseline information and during treatment. Complete culture and sensitivity before beginning drug therapy; this will ensure that correct treatment has been initiated. Assess for allergic reactions. Identify urine output Monitor for bleeding
