How to Construct a Wind Turbine

Why Build A Wind Turbine?


Increasing world energy needs Scarce fossil fuels Need for alternative energy sources Renewable Practically no pollutants Feasible build it yourself Fun!

Materials
Motor-260 volts DC 5 amps treadmill motor with a 6 flywheel 2 length of 8 PVC pipe #20 bolts in long(6) Washers(9) #20 screws in long ( Lock washers(6) 1 Sq foot of metal (for tail) 36 inches of 1 in sq tubing AV cart Weight for ballast (bags of salt, sand, etc.) Tools- Drill and Drill bits, thread tapping set, skill saw screwdriver, vise, clamp, wire strippers, awl, tape measure, tape, level, marker, compass, protractor, shovel, extra hand (+ beer for Dad)

Gathering Materials And Tools


Most of the screws and washers used in our wind turbine can be found at an ACE Hardware store. A lot of the materials we gathered were from surplus yards. For example the motor was a treadmill motor from Ebay.
