    Claude McKay was a Jamaican poet, novelist, and civil rights activist born in 1890. He attended Tuskegee Institute and Kansas State before becoming known for his novel Home to Harlem, which was the most popular novel written by an American black author at the time of its publication in 1928. McKay spent time living in the Soviet Union, France, Spain, and Morocco before returning to America in 1934, where he continued his activism and writing until his death in 1948.

    Claude McKay was born Sept. 15, 1890, in Jamaica. Claude McKay was a Children s Activist, Civil Rights Activists, Author, and a Poet. Claude McKay went to Tuskegee Institute and Kansas State. Claude McKay was a poet and novelist from Jamaica whose Home to Harlem (1928) was the most popular novel written by an American black to that time. After 1922 McKay lived in the Soviet Union, France, Spain, and Morocco. After returning to America in 1934, McKay was attacked by the Communists He died on May 22, 1948
