The Red Summer Riots 1919

Primary Source#1

This poem was written by Claude McKay during the period of the Red Summer Riots. It calls out

the oppressed people to take a stand even if they die in the process of struggle. The poem is tied

to the central theme of racially marginalized people and served as a primary source for my

journal.

This image depicts white Americans attacking the African American who is saving himself

under a shelter. The image belongs to the riots in Chicago in 1919. It is relevant to my journal

because this is the image portraying the race riots of 1919.
