The
Holocaust
The
Persecution
Begins
On
April
7,
1933,
shortly
after
Hitler
took
power
in
Germany,
he
ordered
all
non-
Aryans
to
be
removed
from
government
jobs.
Jews
Targeted
Although
Jews
were
not
the
only
victims
of
the
Holocaust,
they
were
the
center
of
the
Nazi
targets.
Kristallnacht
November
9-10,
1938,
became
known
as
Kristallnacht1.
A
Flood
of
Jewish
Refugees
Kristallnacht
(See

marked
a
step-up
in
the
Nazi
policy
of
Jewish
persecution.
Hitlers
Final
Solution
By
1939
only
about
a
quarter
million
Jews
remained
in
Germany.
Obsessed
with
a
desire
to
rid
Europe
of
its
Jews,
Hitler
imposed
what
he
called
the
Final
Solution-
a
policy
of
genocide2.
Concentration
Camps
Finally,
Jews
in
communities
not
reached
by
the
killing
squads
were
dragged
from
their
homes
and
herded
onto
trains
or
trucks
for
shipment
to
concentration
camps,
or
labor
camps.
