Setting: Illinois Suburb, Spring 1970. Brief summary: Marge Brown is the mother of the month!

but her family doesn't seem to care. In fact, it's shocking that her family even heard the announcement. Marge visits a doctor for advice on dealing with her family, but the doctor she meets is more emotionally unstable than she is. By the end of the play, Marge confronts her family and has a breakdown. It's not a black comedy, but it's certainly a cruel one. Marge - 41 years old. Marge is the mother of the Brown family and is what holds the family together. She is a typically always-cheery mother of the 1950's/60's, but she is strained by her family's complete lack of attention given to her. She is kind and goodhearted, but she is slowly driven to breakdown by the end of the play. Oscar - 41 years old. Oscar is the kind of man who believes he has it worse off than everyone else. He is lazy, slimy, and likes to her himself talk. Ann -16 years old. Ann is a more "typical" (more conservative) girl of the 1950's/60's; however, she is incredibly driven by her self-image. Ann is incredibly self-conscious about her looks because of the importance society has started to put on it. Junior - 11 years old (pre-puberty). Junior is the only member of the family that hasn't completely lost connection to his mother, but he has still been "trained" by his father and sister to put himself first. He is your typical pre-teen boy. He likes to play and have fun. Nurse - 20's. The Nurse tries to distract patients from the Doctor's blatant absurdity. Acts perky, but it's only for show. Doctor - 30's. The Doctor is very absurd in nature. He is a bit OCD, and has some really big emotional issues buried down in his subconscious. Probably the worst person Marge could have gone to for advice.
