    Venice was established in the 5th century AD and by the 6th century had grown powerful enough that the Byzantine emperor sought Venice's aid in his wars in Italy against the Lombards. Venice was ruled equally and prospered greatly through trade, establishing many trading stations. When electing a new Doge, or leader, six councilors would remain in the Doge palace until a new Doge was chosen and swore to observe the laws, which were approved by the people.

    By 548 A.D. Venice was powerful enough that the Emperor Justinian in Constantinople sought the aid of Venice in his war in Italy against the Lombards. Ruled with equality. Very high on trading. Established many trading stations. Choosing the Doge
    At that time there were six councilors in Venice who remained in the palace until the new Doge was elected. Doge must swear to observe; and the people approved that which had been established.

    The Doge palace was near the waterfront and also used many columns. St. Marks was a church that used many domes with crosses at the top of each. The Hagia Sophia was the church of holy wisdom. It was built in Constantinople by Constantine the Great throughout his great empire. Religious schools and many assets were also built near the church.
