4502 version 6 Page 2 of 4 2 This unit standard relates to the calculations carried out in a knitting plant in respect of: a the production rates of individual machines in relation to each style, pattern, or construction; b the production rate of the knitting plant over a specified period of time; c calculations associated with the costing of samples according to company costing procedures. Technical aspects that are required to be covered in this unit standard include: a company practice and procedures in regard to evaluating machine and plant production; b procedures for determining wastage and machine down-time; c procedures for costing samples according to company practice that take in all relevant costs.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1 Calculate knitting machine production rates. Performance criteria 1.1 1.2 1.3 The production time of each style, pattern, or construction is calculated in relation to the machine it is knitted on, according to company practice. Wastages and down-times are recorded according to company practice. The production rate of each machine is calculated according to company practice.

Element 2 Calculate knitting plant production performance. Performance criteria 2.1 The collective production of the plant is calculated for a specified period according to company practice. Range 2.2 2.3 day, or week, or month, or year.

Causes of machine stoppages are analysed to identify any machine(s) in need of urgent maintenance. Production statistics are examined to determine poor-performing machines in need of servicing.

4502 version 6 Page 3 of 4 Element 3 Measure sample knitting times and wastages. Performance criteria 3.1 3.2 The knitting times of complete samples are measured and documented according to company practice. Knitting wastages are measured and documented according to company practice.

Element 4 Measure and evaluate yarn usages in knitted samples. Performance criteria 4.1 4.2 Individual yarn components are measured by weight, and documented according to company practice. Input costs of component yarns are calculated for each sample and documented according to company practice.

Element 5 Calculate knitting costs of samples. Performance criteria 5.1 5.2 5.3 Factors associated with production of knitted fabrics through all stages are calculated and costed according to company costing procedures. All component costs of knitting the sample to specification are aggregated according to company procedures. All costing data for each sample are set out according to company documentation procedures.

Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
