WHERE ?
Loch Ness is a freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands, extending for 37 kilometres southwest of Inverness. This loch is best known for the rare sightings of the Legendary Loch Ness Monster. Also known as Nessie
Ancient Legend
In Ancient Scotland, there were ancient people called Picts. One of their legends described a terrible beast living nearby the loch. The beasts carved in the rock looks like a smaller version of what Nessies believers think Nessie look like. What do you think?
It is said that the residents around the loch used to tell their children stories of the kelpie to keep them away from the dark dangerous waters of the loch. The story was of a fearsome beast who lived in the loch and when hungry would leave its watery home and transform itself into a beautiful horse which would wait for some unlucky traveller to climb on its back then it would gallop straight into the loch and feed on its victim.
SIGHTINGS
The very first photo of Nessie was taken in April of 1934 by Hugh Gray. The photo supposedly showed a longnecked monster parting the waters of the lake, but many are convinced it's simply a blurry shot of a dog with a stick in his mouth.
The Surgeons photo must be one of the most easily recognisable photos in the world. He was travelling with his friend, when they saw something break the surface. His friend shouted My God! Its the Monster!, Wilson ran and took four pictures of it. His picture was sold to a newspaper and that was a proof that Nessie existed in the Loch.
WHAT IS IT ?
Lots of people have their theory about the Monster of the Loch Ness.
Some think it might have been elephants taking a swim.
Monster Hunt
There have been several hunts to find the Monster in Loch Ness.
In 2003 the BBC programme makers carried out the most extensive search ever using 600 separate sonar beams and also satellite navigation.
