Blood Cultures

Blood cultures are used to Identify organisms in the blood to help direct treatment. They are ordered when there are chills, fever, Tachypnea, Tachycardia, or decreased urine output If it is positive it could mean the person has a blood infection and treatment needs to be started immediately.

Risk for anxiety R/T Needle Patient will remain at minimal anxiety level during procedure Staff will explain procedure to patient/family Staff will provide patient with a distraction during the procedure Staff will be honest about the procedure to the child

Care plan for Umbilical Catheter


Risk for Emboli R/T umbilical catheter Patient will remain free of emboli Staff will check for warm red skin and irritation around the catheter site Staff will use an ultrasound to check placement of the catheter Staff will use a heparinized flush as prescribed to clear out the catheter
