Mini-Lessons: 1. Revisit diagnostic task. Modeled lesson of how to


properly write a list. Class will come up with a list of rules to follow when trick or treating for Halloween.

We can make a list We are able to make list vocabulary into complete sentences We can describe what a person or thing looks like and does We can discuss the ideas that our friends talk about in their presentations We will learn more about our favourite things by reading different kinds of texts We will learn how to make a post on a website We will write about our favourite toy and answer the 5 Ws when we are writing We will make a poster to advertise our favourite toy

2. Brainstorming lesson in regards to other ways we


can use lists. (lists can be used to describe what something look likes and what it does). Together as a class, students will brainstorm a list to describe what Mrs. Stryzko looks like and does, and then will work in partners to write about what they look like and do .

ASSESSMENT
Diagnostic Task:
OWA Task #1. (for learning) Students will write a list of recess rules.

3. Using the exemplars from PM writing, students will


be asked to describe a certain object as a class. An anchor chart of the list will be created and then together, the list items will be put into complete sentences.

Formative Task:

Through a step-by-step (as and for learning) process, students will be put into groups and create a post on the website, Voicethread.com describing a favourite cartoon character

4. Students will be put into reading groups based on


interest and will be asked to talk about a mutually agreed upon cartoon character . We will go to the computer lab and research these characters . Students will fill out a 5 W template on the character and why they like it. Once completed their research, students will create a blog on the website Voicethread regarding their character.

5. Students will have their voicethread presented to


the class on the SMARTBoard and will critique each others work, based on the success criteria and the 5 Ws

Culminating Task:

Students will write a (of learning and for) short piece of descriptive writing about their favourite toy

6. Cumulative Task. Students will also make a poster to


advertise their favourite toy to the class.
