Configuring the Computer Name


The Computer Name is a Network ID that is recognized by other computer in network environment. Right click button on the My Computer Select the Properties Select Network Identification Select Properties Type the computer name according to plan but computer name must be unique Select Domain (Server Based) or Workstation (Peer to Peer) Click OK Restart the Computer

Using the TCP/IP utilities


Click Start, Run Type Run CMD or Command Click OK

IPCONFIG
Displays the IP Address of computer that is configured by you. Ipconfig (Using on the Command Prompt)

IPCONFIG/RENEW
It is used to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol to obtain the IP Address automatically Ipconfig/renew (Using on the Command Prompt)

IPCONFIG/ALL
Display all the IP related information Ipconfig/all (Using on the Command Prompt)

HOSTNAME
It is used to display the computer name Hostname (Using on the Command Prompt)

PING
It is used to ping the network computer IP Address to check the connection status Ping 192.168.0.1 (Using on the Command Prompt)

TRACERT

Sharing the Folders and Files


It is used to share and provide the shared folder and files to other computers in network environment

Open the My Computer Decide, Drive or Folder do you want to share Right click button Click sharing (Share) Click share this folder Click new share Type the name folder that is shared folder Click OK Click Permission Click Add and select the user that is you wants to permit or click remove to delete the user Select the Permission Allow Full Control Change Read Click on the Allow or Deny Checkmark Allow is used to permit for accessing folder and if you select the Deny checkmark, you can not access in shared folder Deny

Opening (Browsing) the Shared Folder and Files


Click Start, Run and Enter Type the computer name and shared folder name such as: \\computername\sharefoldername . or \\IPAddress\sharefolder Press Enter to browse

Printer Sharing
Connect the printer on the computer Install the print driver Click Start, Settings, Printer Select the installed Printer Right click button and select Properties Click Sharing Click Share as Click Apply Click OK

Install and configuring the Shared Printer from the Client

Local Group and Users


Local Users and Groups is a tool you can use to manage local users groups. It is available on computers running Windows 2000 Professional and member server running Windows 2000 Server. A local user or group is an account that can be granted permissions and rights from your computer domain or global users and groups are managed by your network administrator (This feature will be in server: Active Directory Services). You can add local users, global users, and global groups to local groups. However, you cannot add local users and groups to global groups. Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools Click Computer Management Double click on the local group and users to display Users Group Users contain the following user: Administrator: It can install, remove and configure the computer system with manages the other users. Guest: It can logon onto the computer and uses the different application. Users: It can access and operate the limited application

Groups contains the following groups


Administrator: It has complete and unrestricted access to the computer/domain. Backup Operators: Can override security restrictions for the sole purpose of backing up or restoring files. Guests: Have the same access as members of the Users group by default, except for the Guest account which is further restricted.

Power Users: Possess most administrative powers with some restrictions. Thus, Power Users an run legacy applications in additions to certified applications. Replicator: Supports file replications in a domain. Users: Are prevented from making accidental or intentional system-wide changes. Thus, Users an run certified applications, but not most legacy applications.

Creating the Local User


Go into the Computer Management Expand the local Users and Groups Right click button of mouse on the Users Click New User Type the user name, full name, description and password Select the authentication according to need. The authentication are: 1. User must change password at next logon. 2. User can not change password. 3. Password never expires. 4. Account is disabled. Click Create to create a new user.

Assign the Member User/Groups


Select the user where you want to apply the Member Users. Right click button of mouse. Select Properties. Select Member of. Click Add. Select the Group of Member Users According to need. Click OK, OK.

Applying the NTFS Security


This security is used the NTFS partition. Go into the NTFS partition drive. Select the folder where you want to apply the NTFS security. Share the folder. Right click button of mouse. Select Properties. Select Security. Select Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object. Select the User from the list. Click remove. Click add.

Select the User from the list. Click Add. Click Ok. Select the Permission. Click Ok Apply. Click Ok.

Assign the User Profile


Go into Computer Management. Select the User from the list. Right click button of the mouse. Select Properties. Select Profile. Select the connect. Select the Drive such as Z: Type the \\Computer\Sharefolder\%Username% if you shared folder else \\ComputerName\Hiddenfolder$\%Username% Click Apply. Click Ok. Note: If you want to assign the profile, you must share the folder that hides the error. Now change the login by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Delete. After logon the computer, you will get Z:\> Drive.

Creating the Local Group


Go into the computer Management. Right Click button of Mouse on Groups. Click New Groups. Type Group Name and Description. Click Add. Select a User that is member of Group. Click Ok.

To Start the Telnet Service


Go into Control Panel then double click on the Administrative Tools. Double click on the Telnet Service Administration. Press 4 and enter to start the telnet Service.

Using the Telnet Client


Telnet Client is used to connect the remote computer of C: Drive. Go to the Ms-Dos Prompt. Type the Telnet

Introduction of IIS
Internet Information Services is used for publishing the Web Page so called the Web Server. It is integrated with SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) and NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol). If you installed the Microsoft Exchange Server, the POP (Post Office Protocol) also integrated with IIS. The Default IP Address is http://127.0.0.1 and Host Name is http://localhost. It is called the DNS (Domain Name Server). The IIS is integrated with Windows 2000 server and XP. Personal Web Server is Integrated with Windows 98 and Windows NT Workstation. Apache Web Server is integrated with Linux, Unix and Solaris.

Using the Internet Information Services


Install the IIS. 1. Go to the Control Panel. 2. Double Click on the Add/Remove Programs. 3. Click Add/Remove Windows Component. 4. Select Internet Information Services to add the checkmark. 5. Click Next to start the Installation 6. If demand the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM Disk, you must insert the CDROM Disk in CD Drive. 7. Click Ok to start the installation 8. After completion, Click Finish. The IIS is specially used for publishing the web pages into Internet or Intranet. IIS support the APS (Active Server Page) and JSP (Java Server Page) for server site Scripting.

Publishing the Web Pages


Go into Microsoft FrontPage. Create the Web Folder. Design the Web Pages. Click file, Publish Web. Type the web server computer IP address: http://192.168.0.2/kiran If appear the User and Password entry, the user and password of Web Server computer. Click Next. Click Publish. Click Done.

Browsing the Published Web Pages


Open Internet Explore. Type the Web Server Computer IP Address on the Address bar: http://192.168.0.2/kiran Press Enter to open the Web page.

Introduction of DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)


Dynamic Host Control Protocol is used to obtain the IP Address to the client automatically.

Installing DHCP
Go into control Panel. Double click on the Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Add/Remove Windows Components. Select Networking Services and click Details. Click on the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to add the Checkmark. Click Ok. Click Next. Click Remote Administration Mode. Click Next. If you required the Windows 2000 Server CD, insert into the CD Drive. Click Finish.

Configuring the DHCP


Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, and DHCP. Select DHCP. Right click button and select Add Server. Click Browse. Select the Server Name (Computer Name Where DHCP is installed). Click Ok, Ok. Select the Computer Name. Right Click button and Select New Scope. Click next and type the name and Description. Click Next. Type the IP Address according to plan. Class-A Class-B Start IP Address 1.0.0.1 126.0.0.1 End IP Address 1.0.0.50 126.0.0.100 Click Next.

Class-C 192.0.0.1 193.0.0.1

Click Next, Next. Click next and type the Router IP Address: such as this computer IP Address. Click Add. Click Next. Type the server name if you installed the Active Directory Server, Type the parent domain name such as aptech.com Click Resolve. Click Add. Click Next. Click Next. Click Next, Finish. Select the Reservation. Right click button of mouse. Click New Reservation. Type the Server Name. Type the IP Address. Type the MAC (Media Access Control): same IP Address. Click Add. Click Yes. Click Close. Select the server options. Right click button. Click Configure Options. Click Apply, Ok. Restart the Computer.

Client Configuration for DHCP


Right click button on My Network Places. Click Properties. Right click button of mouse on the Local Area Connection. Select Properties. Select TCP/IP. Select Properties. Select Obtain an IP address automatically. Select Obtain DNS Server address automatically. Click Ok, Ok. Restart the computer. Go into the Ms-Dos Prompt. Type the following: Ipconfig/ release Ipconfig/renew Ipconfig/all

DNS (Domain Name Protocol)

Installing DNS (Domain Name Service)


You can install the DNS from the Add/Remove programs, Add/Remove Windows Components and Network Services of control Panel.

Configuring the DNS


Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, and DNS. If not display the computer name, right click button of mouse on the DNS. Click Connect to Computer. Select the computer name to display the computer name with Forward and Reverse Lookup. Right click button of mouse. Click New Zone. Click Next. Select Standard Primary and Click Next. Type the New DNS Name: Abhishek.com Click Next, Next. Click Finish. Select newly made DNS like Abhishek.com Right click button of mouse. Click New Host. Type the parent name like www.

Type the IP Address that is configured in your server. Click Add Host, Ok. Click Done. Again, right click button of mouse on the newly made DNS. Click other new Records. Select AFSD (Andrew File System Database): Supports the user-defined server and DNS. Click Create Record. Type the Host Name or Parent Name like www. Click Ok, Done. Again, right click button of mouse on the newly made DNS. Click Update Server Data Files Now yours DNS is for ready to use. The following DNS is made: www.abhishek.com

To check the DNS


Go into the Ms-Dos. Type the following command: Nslookup www.abhishek.com It displays the following message: Server: localhost Address: 172.0.0.1 Name: www.abhishek.com Address 130.0.0.1 If appear the above message DNS is working.

Using the DNS


Open the Internet Explore. Type the URL on the Address: http://www.abhishek.com

Introduction the Active Directory Services


Active Directory Server is center point for users where from we can create and use the global users for Internet and Intranet. Active Directory Creates the Master Domain Controller and NetBIOS name which is globally used in network environment. When we install the Active Directory Server that manage and organize the users and computers therefore called the centralized administration. This part is examination for MCSE called the Core Part.

Installing the Active Directory Services


Click Start. Click Run. Type the DCPROMO. Press Enter. Click Next. Select Domain Controller for New Domain. Click Next. Select Create a New Domain Tree. Click Next. Select Create a New Forest of Domain trees. Click Next. Type the DNS name: MIC.Com. Click Next. Appears the NetBIOS name: MIC Click Next. Click Next. Click Next. Select Yes, Install and Configure DNS on this Computer. Click Next. Select Permissions compatible with pre-Windows 2000 Servers. Click Next. Type the password if you entered the password in administrator user. Click Next. Click Next. Wait for unit appears the Finish. Click Finish. Restart the Computer.

Joining the Computer with Domain


It converts the peer to peer network into Domain based network. When you join the computers with Domain, you can access into the server from the Client. The user name and password must be domain or server. Right click button of mouse on the My Computer. Click Properties. Select Network Identification. Select Properties. Select Domain. Type the NetBIOS Name that is created in ADS. Press Enter. Type the Administrator and Password of Domain. Wait for until display the Ok.

Click Ok, Ok, Ok. Click Yes to Restart the Computer.

Login from the Domain User


Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Select Log Off. Click Yes. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Type the Domain user and Password. Select the Domain from the list. Press Enter to Log-on Using Domain User.

Creating Global User Account


Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Active Directory Users and Computers. Expand the Domain like MIC.Com Right click button of mouse on the Domain. Click New, Organization Until. Type the Organization until Name like MIC, Ok. Right click button of mouse on the newly made Organization Until. Click New. Organizations Until like for example below: MIC Sales Marketing Account Faculty Expand the sub organization until like sales. Right click button of mouse on the Sales. Click New User. Type the First Name, Last Name and User ID. Click Next. Type the Password if you need. Select the Authentication. 1. Users must change password at next logon. 2. Users can not change Password. 3. Password never expires. 4. Account is disabled. Click Next. Click Finish. Note: Now you can assign the User Profiles, and Member of user same as Windows 2000 Professional.

Deleting the Active Directory Service


Click Start. Click Run. Type DCPROMO. Select the Options. Click Next. Type the password of administrator. Click Next. Wait for until appear the Finish. Click Finish. Restart the Computer.

Introduction of Remote Access Server


Remote Access Server is used to connect to the remote server from the client using telephone and modem.

Installing the Remote Access Server


Install the Remote Access Server from the Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, and Network Services of Control Penal.

Configuring the Remote Access Server


Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Routing and Remote Access. Right click button of mouse. Click Configure and Enable Remote Access Server. Click Next. Select Remote Access Server. Click Next. Select TCP/IP. Click Next. Click Next. Click Automatically. Click Next. Click Next. Click Finish.

Status of Remote Access Clients


Right click button of mouse on the My Network Places. Select Properties. There are connected user list will be displayed.

Creating the Dial-Up Connection

In the client computer, Right click button of mouse on the My Network Places. Select Properties. Double click on the Make New Connection. Select Dial-Up to the Internet. Click Next. Type the ISP or Remote Access Server Telephone. Click Next. Click Next. Click Next. Click Finish. Type the ISP user name and password or remote access server user name and password. Click Connect.

Introduction of Terminal Service


You can install the Terminal Services using the Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components and selecting the Terminal Services and Terminal Licensing Service of Control Panel.

Installing the Terminal Clients


Go to the Client Computer. Click Start, Run. Type \\servername\c$. Then press Enter to browse. Double click on the WINNT. Double click on the System32. Double click on the Clients. Double click on the TSCLIENTS. Double click on the WIN32. Double click on the Disks. Double click on the Disk1. Double click on the Setup.exe. Appear the Terminal Client Service. Click Continue. Type the name and organization. Click Ok. Click I agree. Click Icons. Click Yes. Click Ok.

Connecting to Terminal Server from Client


Click Start, Programs, Terminal Service Client, and Terminal Service Client.

Type the Terminal Service Name or Address. Select the Screen Area. Click Connect. Type the User Name and Password of Terminal Server. Click Ok to logon into the Terminal Server.

Introduction of Proxy Server


Proxy Server is used for gateway system that is used to distribute the Internet and Email to other network computers.

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Professional, XP Server and XP Professional use the Proxy Server
Microsoft Windows 9x and Me use the WinRoute and WinGate to share the Internet and Email in network computers.

Installing Proxy Server


Insert the Proxy Server CD in drive. Double click on the My Computer. Double click on the CDROM drive. Double click on the Win Proxy. Double click on the Setup. Click Next, Yes. Select the Options 1. Typical 2. Compact 3. Custom. Click Next. Click Next, Next, Next to starts the Installation. Click Ok. Click Finish. If you want to Restart, Click Yes otherwise Click No.

Client Configuration for Internet


Go to the Client Computer. Open the Internet Explore. Click Tools. Click Internet Options. Click Connections. Click Setup. Click I want to setup my Internet Connection Manually. Click Next.

Click Connect through a local area network. (LAN) Click Next. Click Automatic Discovery of Proxy Server. (Recommended) Click Next. Appears the Message: Do you want to setup an Internet mail account now? 1. Click No for later configuration, Click Next. 2. Click Finish. Or 1. If you click Yes to get the options, click next. 2. Type the Display Name and click next. 3. Type the email address which is provided by the ISP syrappa@wlink.com.np rawell@ntc.net.np hansom_23@mos.com.np 4. Click Next. 5. Type the POP3: pop3.mos.com.np, click Next. 6. Type the SMTP: smtp.mos.com.np, click Next. 7. Type the User name and Password that is supplies by the ISP. 8. Click Next. 9. Click Finish.

Event Viewer
The Event Viewer is used to fine the trouble for shooting in Windows 2000 and XP. Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. Select the problem from the list. Double click it to display the error message and what kind or error, you can find it. Click Ok. The End
