Scene 1: Colonel is walking in home and he sees Lupe depressed. He approaches her and tells her: -What is it querida? he sits next to her You have nothing to worry about; I wont be going out for several days -She looks at him and responds Its not that, school is about to start and I am going to be alone -But the school is just across the canyon Lupe looks away thinking he doesnt understand. He hugs her and tells her how his first day of school was. I remember the first day of school, ohh I wanted to cry, I broke off the classroom and ran home as fast as I could -Really you did that? -yes, you see querida, going to school isnt just a frightening experience for you. For the other children too -I have never been inside an American place before He asks her if she still has the card he gave her, she take sit out and tells her to do him a favor.

-I want you to be brave; I want you to take my card to your teacher and ask her to teach you how to read it. Will you do this? Lupe was so frightened but she nodded yes. Scene 2Lupe was scared because it was going to be her first day of school; she got ready and tried to look her very best. Lupes mother called her , she handed her a basket full of flowers take this to your teacher Senora Munoz.. Lupe got the basket and was ready to go.Go with God mi hijita her mother said. They waved till they both disappeared. Scene 3-She walked on her way to school and then saw Uva Cuca and Manuelita, Lupe noticed their dresses. As they walked they saw Rose-Mary with the other classmates, Rose-Mary gave Lupe a dirty look but Lupe tried to ignore that. They were all having fun jumping on rocks alongside the water then again RoseMary bumped into Lupe. Hurry we have to move, the Americans dont want us near the gates Manueltia said. As they walked, they approached the classroom. Thats our teacher, Senora Munoz And thats Senora Jones, and Katiecome ill introduce! They ran toward them. Then Rose-Mary comes in pushing Lupe. Look at my new dress! My mother had it specially made for me! She twirled around showing off the dress and talking up all the attention. Then Lupe got embarrassed she didnt want to give the teacher the gift, she hid her card. Then the bell rang. Scene 4-
