Niagara Falls

Date of the trip: - OCTOBER 26, 2011 Place visited: - NIAGARA FALLS HISTORY OF THE PLACE: - The word Niagara is derived from the IROQUOIS
INDIAN WORD ONGUIAAHRA meaning the STRAIT. Niagara is the second largest after Victoria Falls in southern Africa. The Niagara peninsula became free of the ice about 12,500years ago. There were original 5 spill ways from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. But was reduce to the one Niagara Falls. At Queenstown Lewiston From here the falls began it steady erosion through the bedrock. The Niagara River is the entire Great Lakes Basin of which the river is the legacy of last ice age. In 18,000 Southern Ontario was covered by ice sheets 2-3 kilometers thick. And as they melted northward the ice sheet melted in the great lake and for the last time they released vast quantities of melting water in to the basin from which less than one percent is renewable on the annual basis, the rest left over from the ice sheets. At the bottom of the falls the water travels at the speed of 15 miles an hour.

FACTS: - until 1912 visitors were allowed to actually walk out on the Ice Bridge and view the
falls from below. The water flow on the American side of the falls is much less in strength because of Goat Island; Whereas Horseshoe falls has no obstruction to divert it.

MY THOUGHT ON THE PLACE: - Niagara Falls is one of the most beautiful places I
have seen the place is full of energy and have it own values. The best part of the falls is you get to see the power of nature with the beauty. Sound of the water fall and the mist of it make you feel part of it. Clifton hill which is just one block away from the falls give us the feel of getting in to the fun and enjoyment and shopping mood and the Niagara Sky Wheel Towering 175 feet over the Niagara Falls horizon, the "Niagara Sky Wheel" delivers magnificent views of both the Horseshoe and American Falls.
