Planning Activity
1. ALA Standard 1: Learners use skills, resources, and tools to inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge. 1.1.4 Find, evaluate, and select appropriate sources to answer questions. 2. Target Audience The target audiences for our group are students in 3rd through 5th grade. Their ages range from eight to twelve. In Bacon County Elementary School there is a wide range of cultural backgrounds. We have some students of Hispanic, Caucasian, African American, and Asian backgrounds. Specific entry skills needed for this is the basic knowledge of how to read. The point behind this is to encourage students to read for fun and for information to find answers. Learning styles of the target audience also varies as with each student. The most prominent is visual and kinesthetic. By watching the video and reading they will be using visual and by writing and answering questions they will use kinesthetic. To motivate the students we will grab their attention in the video by showing an appealing environment. Then, once we get their attention we will relate it to them and how they could find out more about famous people or specific things about wars they are studying about. After we relate it to their lives, we will convince them that its easy and enhances learning to find and read books to answer questions. After they have done this, they will have a greater knowledge of the subject and their satisfaction will be completing a project or assignment with accuracy and know about the subject. 3. Objective After viewing a video that demonstrates finding, evaluating, and selecting appropriate sources to answer questions, students ranging from grades 3-5 will discover the importance of reading and how to use books and resources in the media center to locate information that can be used to answer questions at 90% accuracy.
