USE OF HARD WATER

About Hard Water

Hard water is high in dissolved minerals, both calcium and magnesium. As water moves through soil and rock, it dissolves small amounts of naturally-occurring minerals and carries them into the ground water supply. Water is a great solvent for calcium and magnesium, so if the minerals are present in the soil around your well and its water supply, that water will now be called hard water .

Health Benefits Of Hard Water

-Helps meet the daily requirements of calcium and magnesium in our diet

-Magnesium helps keep a heart healthy, in transmission of nerve impulses, body temperature regulation, detoxification, energy production, the formation of healthy bones and teeth and helps absorption of calcium by the body

-Calcium helps in maintaining strong teeth and bones. Calcium also aids blood clothing and muscle contraction.

Filtration Systems Which Can Be Used Before Consumption

Reverse Osmosis
How it works: A semipermeable membrane separates impurities from water. (Note: This filtration technique wastes a substantial amount of water during the treatment process.)

Used in: Under-the-sink units; often in combination with a carbon filter or UV disinfection unit.
Gets rid of: Most contaminants, including certain parasites such as Cryptosporidium andGiardia; heavy metals such as cadmium, copper, lead and mercury; and other pollutants, including arsenic, barium, nitrate/nitrite, perchlorate and selenium.

Activated Alumina Filters

How It works -A highly porous and absorptive material. Removes: -effective in removing the excess quantities of fluoride, arsenic, selenium, lead and variety of other contaminants in water. Maintenance: -In order to maintain the purity levels and allow the filtered water to remain effective, appropriate regenerate such as alum or acid needs to be added or periodic cleaning has to be performed.
