Dear all, Elections for next year's SA officers are around the corner.

In the run-up to elections on 19th April, we wanted to give everyone a chance to see what the SA has been up to over the past year and help potential candidates get more insight into each of the roles. Over the coming weeks, the SA will share conversations with the current officers for each of the positions coming up for election. Today, meet Jasnine Patel (MBA2012) and Kunal Sinha (MBA2012), your Student Association Careers Officers.

So, what do you do day-to-day? Jasnine: Kunal and I were effectively a liaison between Career Services and the students. As Career Reps, we sought feedback from students via formal and informal channels and made ourselves available and accessible for understanding important career related issues. What were the best things that you were able to accomplish? Kunal: The role is an advisory position. So while we were able to collect a lot of good feedback and present that to Career Services along with many suggested solutions, we neither had the power nor the responsibility for implementing them. However, we were able to influence action in some of the cases, such as increasing the availability of coaching slots, raising awareness of critical student issues, and hosting a town hall with Career Services (which is expected to continue). What did you enjoy most about being on the SA?

Kunal: Being on the SA truly allows you to have a voice in most matters that affect all students' lives on campus. It is a position of great responsibility and I enjoyed being able to debate decisions in a democratic manner, understanding the inner workings of the school and building relationships with key School stakeholders I would never have met otherwise. What's one of the most useful things that you learned during your time in the role? Jasnine: I learned how to manage expectations and issues for a diverse set of stakeholders (from MiMs to MBAs to MiFs to EMBAs to SLOANS). I also understood how Career Services works, developed many strong relationships within the team, and understood their challenges as well. Why did you decide to join the SA? Kunal: Having worked as an Academic Rep in my first year, I was exposed to one aspect of our experience at London Business School. I wanted to make an impact on other aspects as well. I initially considered the Alumni position but ended up running for Careers as that seemed to be an area where, I thought, more could be done.
