Sub: Phase out of Carbon Tetra Chloride (CTC)

Solvents are primarily used in degreasing and precision cleaning in Metal industries as also for stain removal in the Textile industry amongst other usages. According to the information, CTC will not available for solvent users after 31st December, 2009. As per M/s GTZ, the viable alternatives of CTC are as under:Metal Degreasing Viable alternative solvents in metal degreasing S.No. Solvent 1 Acetone 2 Chloroform 3 Cyclohexane 4 Dichloreethane 5 Ethyl acetate 6 Hexane 7 Isopropyl alcohol 8 d-Limonene 9 Methanol Precision Cleaning Viable alternative solvents in precision cleaning S.No. Solvent 1 Methylene Dichloride 2 Perchloroethylene Sampling of raw material Viable alternative solvents for sampling of raw material in foundries.
