NOTE: This test detects 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH) and other hydroxylated metabolites in serum Method: Test is performed on architect instrument employing chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA).
INTERPRETATION Optimal level Moderate to severe Mild/Borderline deficiency Hypo vitaminosis Toxic level 40 - 100 ng/mL < 10 ng/mL 10 - 20 ng/mL 20 - 40 ng/mL > 100 ng/mL Optimum for bone and muscle health. Can result in rickets or osteomalacia. May lead to hyperparathyroidism. Reduced muscle strength. Danger of falls in elderly. May result in sub-optimal bone and muscle health. Intestinal calcium hyperabsorption and increased net bone resorption leading to hypercalcaemia.
