TheOutsiders

A story of friendship and belonging between two sides of the street struggling to fit in with one another. This book takes place in a unnamed town in the U.S in the 1960s'. The major characters in this book are Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Dallas Winston (Dally). The minor characters are Darrel Curtis (Darry), Sodapop Curtis (Soda), Steve Randle, Two-Bit Matthews (Keith), Sherri Valence (Cherry), Marcia, Robert Sheldon (Bob), and Randy Anderson. The main characters Ponyboy and Johnny are best friends. They are both shy and standoffish with the rest of their gang. Ponyboy and Johnny understand each other. They can tell what the other one wants to say even before its been said. They stick up for and take care of each other like brothers. The Greasers and Socs are very different from each other. The Greasers are unwealthy and work hard for everything they have. The Socs are rich and get everything they want. The two are always in conflict with one another whether the Socs are jumping the Greasers for fun or vice versa. This goes on until one night when everything takes a turn for the worst. The author of this book is S.E Hinton. I would personally recommend this book because it shows the differences between two groups of people and the mess and problems that can come out because of one

situation. This book is about friendship and belonging because, the Socs and Greasers feel that the other one doesn't belong they each feel that the other should leave. The Socs are richer and think of themselves better than everyone else. The Greaser's work hard for every dime they have and think of the Socs as snobby and rich. This book is also about friendship because the greasers think of each other as family and best friends. If theres a problem with one the rest of the gang will try to help. Ponyboy and Johnny are a good example for this because one is always there for the other they care for each other like brothers and if the one needs help the other is there. I recommend this book because it shows if two sides are in conflict and how one problem can affect everyone.
