Olivia Bell English 1102 Anthony Borrero 13, February 2012 Synthesis Essay For my historical inquiry project,

I began researching the Manhattan Project, the research, development, and creation of the worlds first atomic bomb, and a race to beat the Nazis and a way to end the Worlds second biggest war. During my research, and after I completed my annotated bibliography, I discovered several things about my topic, the Manhattan Project. Most of my sources discredit the scientist Oppenhemier as the founder, and main leader of the atomic bomb project, they instead credit, General Leslie Groves, as the true unsung hero of the Manhattan Project. Most of my sources also mention the different levels of power within the actual project, whether it be creative, maintenance or political. It also talks about the different genders, ages, and ethnicities, and also many of my sources compare the locations. What each location was needed for, what it specialized at, and who was in charge of the project in that locations. The authors that gave me the most information and gave me the most useful information were Leslie Groves, through his autobiography, and Ruth Howes, who discovered womens roles throughout the project. The least helpful source I found was the book of pictures by Rachel Fermi, while the pictures are helpful in seeing the development of an atomic bomb, there was no information I could include into my paper.
